ART DECO

Art Deco graphics first appeared in about 1910 and continued until the 1940s. The subjects are often theatrical or deal with fashion, with a streak of eroticism. The style is often spiky with a touch of Cubism, can be highly colourful, and can depict the distortions of speed as seen from a moving vehicle. In addition to all the traditional print processes, pochoirs (a kind of silkscreen) were popular. One variant of the style was the 'Boudoir' print, in which languorous lightly clad ladies lounged creatively about their bedrooms.
