ILLUSTRATORS

The artists in this section concentrated on the illustration of books and periodicals in the twentieth century in the tradition of the great illustrators of the sixties and the nineties in the previous century. While the drawings of nineteenth century had to be interpreted by other hands in wood and later steel engraving, twentieth century artists have had greater control over their images, which ran the gamut from lithographs, etchings, woodcuts, linocuts, pochoirs and many other techniques to offset printing, heliogravure and other reproductive techniques, all in both black and white and in colour. We have many of the original drawings, scraperboards and watercolours as well as proofs of the graphics.
